Massage
Therapies:
Massage
Therapy has been used since the dawn of time to promote the
body’s natural healing, rub away aches and pains, and convey
comfort and caring through healing touch.
When you feel good, you do good.
We
believe that massage is a necessary addition to
today’s busy lifestyle. Too many times when we are
stressed from work, family or life’s circumstances
and
really need to take care of ourselves, we end up being
last
on the list.
Receiving
a massage, even once a month, can be the difference between feeling
able to meet the day’s challenges or dreading getting out of
bed.
When you can’t take a week’s vacation, give
yourself an
hour! – face the world again as a happy, smiling
person!
Go to bed and actually sleep – peacefully. Sit at your desk
and
not wince from the pain in your neck or lower back. Too much gardening
or running after the grandkids? Feel renewed and invigorated in only an
hour!
Having good health MUST be
your top priority.
Without it, doing even simple tasks can be difficult, if not impossible.
Swedish Massage
Swedish
massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. It
was developed by a Swedish physiologist, Henri Peter Ling, at the
University of Stockholm in 1812. It uses a firm, but gentle pressure to
improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve
flexibility and create relaxation.
Swedish massage
employs five different movements:
* long, gliding strokes
* kneading of individual muscles
* friction
* tapping
* vibration
The
therapist generally uses massage oil or lotion to facilitate making
long, smooth strokes over the body. Swedish massage is done with the
person covered by a sheet, a technique called "draping". One part of
the body is uncovered, massaged, and then covered up before moving on
to another part of the body.
Swedish
massage is the foundation for other types of Western massage, including
sports, deep tissue and aromatherapy.
Swedish
massage is available in One-hour or 30-minute sessions. Aromatherapy,
soothing music and low-lighting are used to promote a relaxing, healing
atmosphere.
Deep
Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage
is a therapeutic massage that is helpful for stress, bad posture,
excessive fitness training, prolonged computer work, and any other
overuse of muscles that can cause muscle stiffness, back and neck pain,
and headaches.
Deep
tissue massage is a stretching treatment which releases
stiffness
and soreness. Deep tissue massage penetrates the deeper layers
of
muscles by squeezing and stretching muscles through skillful
hand
movements and pressure.
Stimulating blood circulation, deep tissue massage may sometimes create
a little muscle soreness, but this reaction is normal as
painful
adhesions are being mechanically loosened.
With
regular deep tissue massage treatment, constrained muscles become loose
and flexible; thus reducing pain and increasing range of motion.
Intensity
of deep tissue massage is directed by the client so
to reach a comfortable level of treatment.
Deep
Tissue Massage is available in One-hour or 30-minute sessions.
Aromatherapy, soothing music and low-lighting are used to
promote
a relaxing, healing atmosphere.
Targeted Massge
Targeted
Massage focuses on one or two specific problem areas. We have
found target massage to be extremely beneficial with problems
of
the feet, the hands and lower arms, the neck and shoulders,
migraine and stress headaches, TMJ, lower back pain,
abdominal cramping, sciatic leg pain, and leg & calf
muscle spasms.
Targeted Massage is available in One-hour or 30-minute sessions.
Aromatherapy, soothing music and low-lighting are used to promote a
relaxing, healing atmosphere.
Hot Stone Therapy
Hot
stone massage is a
technique used in ancient cultures, including native American healing
practices. Hot stones provide the benefits of thermal therapy with
energy balancing properties. Thermal therapy, hot and cold, affects
circulation and provides a method to reach deep tissue for healing.
This healing technique is beneficial for the treatment of both acute
and chronic injuries or conditions.
Basalt
stones are used for the hot therapy. These are aged, volcanic rock
smoothed by many years in rivers and oceans. The rocks are hand
harvested and vary in size and shape. Each rock comes with a history of
its own. And, being massaged with the stones, brings that history to
you.
Since
the hot stones are used to massage the body, you receive the same
benefits as a Swedish massage, deep tissue massage and trigger point
work. The added benefit is heat that penetrates the muscle and tendon
providing deeper work with less pressure.
The
smooth texture of the rock and the heat provides dramatic
stress
reducing results. Many recipients go into a deep
meditative
state early in the session. The stone placement along the
chakras
also helps clear the body’s energetic system.
Hot Stone Massage is a 1 & ½ hour session.
Aromatherapy, soothing music and low-lighting are used to promote a
relaxing, healing atmosphere.
