Reiki is a natural healing technique that promotes relaxation and stress reduction; and works with the body’s natural abilities to heal.

Reiki is a “hands on healing” technique that was discovered and made available by Dr. Makao Usui in the late 1800's. Dr. Usui traveled extensively, studying many languages, cultures and religions on his personal quest to rediscover secrets that had been lost about this miraculous form of healing. Dr. Usui learned many languages as part of his studies and finally, after many decades of study Dr. Usui discovered a formula of healing in obscure Sanskrit writings. With this information, prayer and much contemplation, Dr. Usui created “The Usui Method of Natural Healing” or Reiki, as it is commonly known.

Reiki is a Japanese word that comes from two words. “Rei” translates to universal spirit, higher power or God. The word “Ki” refers to the life force that flow through all living things. Therefore, Reiki means ‘life force that is guided by God’.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn or use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not.
Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion and spiritual beliefs.

What can I expect from a Reiki Treatment?
A Reiki treatment is a way of increasing your life energy. A Reiki practitioner will transmit Reiki energy or “universal life force” to the client through the hands. The hands are lightly placed on the body or sometimes above the body.

A treatment can feel like a warm glowing radiance that flows through the body. It is a very relaxing experience and some clients report the body feeling heavy as it relaxes and yet the spirit or emotions feeling light at the same time. One treatment will usually release negative feelings or thoughts leaving the client feeling more positive, light-hearted and with the feeling of well-being.

Because Reiki works on an energy level, it can aid healing on all kinds of problems including physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. 

Reiki is not a substitute for standard medical or emotional treatment, but is a complementary treatment used with other forms of treatments. It is a fact that more and more physicians and medical facilities are recommended Reiki to their patients and many of them have seen incredible results. Nearly every reputable publications including Time, Life and Newsweek magazines have had articles involving ‘hands on healing’ and the professions are now using it.

Reiki, because it can be used on every living thing to promote healing, is becoming a popular and accepted form of treatment by veterinarians and pet owners.

What to expect during a Reiki Session:  

The client is fully clothed and is comfortably positioned on a massage table. Both the giver and receiver are flooded with relaxation and a sense of well-being during the treatment. As receivers, we may feel enveloped by a feeling of being in the present, and we may feel all worries disappear. We may even forget where we are. When acute traumas are present, a Reiki session often provides immediate relief. Chronic conditions often require multiple treatments.

Reiki is not a substitute for medical care, nor is it a cure-all, but it can be safely used in conjunction with conventional medical methods enhancing the effectiveness of treatment. With Reiki, there is always healing on the energetic plane -- so although we may not perceive it at first, it may begin as a shift in our thinking and our way of living, thus developing into a healing of our entire being.

Reiki can be the embodiment of living all that we can be, on every level of our lives, down to the core of our very souls!
